Abusive Church Membership
Someone recently left his church on grounds that the church didn't care for him enough. That if his pastor was a true shepherd he would have done more to care for him as a sheep.
I later realized from his wife that for over 3 years the church catered for their rent, part and often times all the fees of their kids, helped them navigate financial pressures when they had jobs or in-between jobs.
I started wondering what more the pastor could have done to keep this family happy, and i realized that the church today is filled with many abusive members.
The church should shoulder some responsibilities for these abusive members because in our quest to win souls we have replaced the crux of the message of Christianity with crust of breads and social welfare.
Is it wrong to be a church given to welfare? Definitely not, but when our thrust is packages of welfare, then our people won't fare well in matters of spirituality and responsibility.
Jesus said in Luke 7:22 KJV
[22] Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
He didn't give the poor things but the everlasting gospel because when the forces of Christianity is working effectively in a man or a people, it's from the miry clay to the high places of the earth.
Let us help our members by all means necessary, but let the help push them to work with their hands, providing for their families and the work of God so that others can come into the fold and experience the same thing and keep the cycle going. It can then be said of us like:
Acts 2:44-47 KJV
[44] And all that believed were together, and had all things common; [45] And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men , as every man had need. [46] And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, [47] Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
All is the emphasis there and not some, those that have more may have to give more but ultimately all of us have something to give. Church membership is not an excuse to be lazy or dependent on the church or wealthy members, no one can help you to rise to the pinnacle of your destiny, it's only the grace of God. From the little I know and observed, some wealthy folks only help people that pay homage to them. So stop looking at what others have in your local assembly and start allowing the Holy Spirit to show you what you can do that God can bless and make your life better.
The church of God should put teaching how to fish first before giving fish to people. Members should always ask themselves that if everybody is like me, has my attitude and mentality what would my local assembly be like?
Church is not an ATM machine that you think you can go to anytime for withdrawal because you see your tithes and offering as deposit made.
God bless you and cause his face to shine on you.
